MIDI Connection Manual

I. Connecting the Macintosh to the MIDI Sound Unit or Synthesizer
A) For Units Which Can Connect Directly (Sound Canvas, etc.)
With this type of connection, you'll get 32-parts, if your unit can handle it.
1. Set the switch on your sound unit to "Mac"
2. Set up the cable as follows.
MIDI Sound Unit Macintosh
(Computer In) <---Serial Cable---> (Modem or Printer Port)
B) Using a MIDI Interface
B1) 16-Part
Set up the cable as follows.
MIDI Sound Unit MIDI Macintosh
(Computer In) <-MIDI Cable-> Interface <-MIDI Cable-> (Modem or Printer Port)
B2) 32-Part
Set up the cable as follows.
MIDI Sound Unit MIDI Macintosh
(MIDI InA) <-MIDI Cable-> Interface <-MIDI Cable-> (Modem Port)
(MIDI InB) <-MIDI Cable-> Interface <-MIDI Cable-> (Printer Port)
II. MidPlay Settings
Regular Settings
1. Start MidPlay.
2. Select "Settings" in the "File" menu.
3. Choose the "Port" which your cable(s) is/are connected to.
a) Choose "Modem Port" or "Printer Port".
b1) Choose "Modem Port" or "Printer Port".
b2) Choose "Modem & Printer Ports".
4. Click "OK"
If You Include Apple MIDI Manager
MidPlay Settings
1. Start MidPlay.
2. Select "Settings" in the "File" menu.
3. Under "Port" choose "Apple MIDI Manager"
4. Click "OK"
MIDI Manager Settings
5. Open the PatchBay application
6. Double-click the MIDI Driver icon
7. Choose the port which your cable is connected to then close the dialog.
8. Connect the MIDI Driver icon and the MidPlay icon.
9. Quit the PatchBay application.
